Deadline for Aadhaar Linking to welfare schemes and bank accounts etc extended to 31st March by Supreme Court

In an Interim Order the Supreme Court of India has extended the date for linking Aadhaar Card with host of other things like Bank accounts, PAN etc to 31st March 2018.

The court meanwhile is going to take up the challenge against Aadhaar from 10th January.

A host of cases has been brought before the Supreme Court with primary concerns related to privacy violations have been mentioned as a reason why Aadhaar card should not be mandatory.

The extension also applies for linking mobile numbers to Aadhaar card.  However if you are looking to open a new bank account you need to show proof that you have applied for an Aadhaar card.

It is important to note that the scope of Aadhaar card today spread across many social schemes. Due to the convinience Aadhaar offers, the goverment has extended its use (in some cases or states) to board exams and noon meal schemes too.
