Govt Extends Deadlines for Enrolling For Aadhaar Schemes By 3 Months

Last Wednesday, the center announced its plan to extend the deadline for the people to obtain and avail government subsidies and schemes till 31st December.

Now Indian citizens have 3 extra months to enroll in these schemes. Note this extension is only applicable for Indian citizens, who haven’t applied for aadhaar. Indian citizens can avail up to 135 schemes (which come under 35 different ministries). This includes free gas for the financially poor section of the society, fertilizer subsidy and kerosene, MGNREGA, and a structured public distribution system.

The government has made it compulsory for the citizens to link or quote their aadhaar with the respective service a couple months back, to obtain the benefits of these government subsidies. The government ensured to encourage people without Aadhaar card to enroll for the unique identification, previously by 30 September, but now this date has been extended until the last date of this year.

In order to enroll more and more citizens of the weaker section of the society into the schemes, the government has extended the deadline to apply for the scheme. This extension was also applicable for availing scholarships, housing subsidy, and the stipend for trainees of SC/ST category, Aam Aadmi Bima Yojana, Pension Scheme (1995) and skill development schemes etc.
