Government Plans on Going beyond Aadhaar for Verifying Mobile numbers

Government Plans on Going beyond Aadhaar for Verifying Mobile Numbers

After making it mandatory for aadhaar card users to link their mobile numbers with their aadhaar card now the government is planning on, using other documents, to verify mobile numbers of Indian citizens.

The government wants to eliminate all fake SIM card holders from the country, by turning down their mobile number. As per the law imposed by the government, Indian citizens need to link their mobile number with their SIM cards before 31, December 2017 if they want to continue to use their current mobile numbers.

But now the government feels that they can also ask the citizens to link their other government documents with their aadhaar card which can also help in tracking down fraud SIM card holders. It is speculated that these IDs would include documents like passport, driver’s license, and ration card.
