Aadhaar Card and Driving License Mandatory to Be Linked

Aadhaar Card and Driving License Mandatory to Be Linked

After PAN Card, mobile number and bank accounts, now the government is planning on making it mandatory for Indian users to link their aadhaar card with their driving license, which can potentially help in eliminating fake licenses and also prevent the official from getting manipulated into making a driving license for an underage kid.

Now the 12-digit unique identification number of every Indian citizen will be linked with their driving license. Recently, Ravi Shankar Prashad, Union Information, and Technology Minister, during a Haryana Digital Summit, revealed that government has been planning on passing this law for a few months now, but now things are boosting up as the officials have already talked to Nitin Gadkari who is the Road transportation and Highway Minister of India.

This can be very beneficial for the government as once the driving is linked to the standard security code of the country, it will be very easy for officials to identify and categorize people who already have a driving license, and they would also be able to identify their driving history and if there are any cases of these people.

Like we have already discussed, the implication of this rule will prevent duplication and fraud. Note that this rule hasn’t been officially implemented yet, but looking at its benefits, we think that the government is going to announce it soon.

Individual states are responsible for issuing driving licenses in the country. Gadkari has also commented on this issue several times, claiming that every third driver in India has a fake license, which results in road accidents, causing over 1.5 lakh deaths on road every year.
